Landscape Drawing - R.E Centre

This piece took 1 ½ hours which included directive study.

The building itself was the hardest challenge. Its awkward shape posed great difficulty as the inwards slopes of the building make it hard to establish a vanishing point. The tone of the piece is portrayed using hard lines as the entire piece looks more architectural rather than a ‘sketch’. Another challenge were the shutters. The incredibly awkward angles and position made it even more difficult to draw as the structure itself, makes it hard to find any vanishing points so that alone made its proportions seem out of shape in the drawing, but perfect when in person.

The surface of the building is hard so using hard lines help create bold details such as the sharp edges. Its plausible to say that the building is balanced in both shape and size as the 2 edges are perpendicular to each other meaning they are parallel to each other. The drawing shows some depth as the right part of the building bends inwards at a sharp angle, making that side elongate and slope into what seems to be its vanishing point. Although the drawing could use more shading to exaggerate its tone in order to help promote its depth.
